Extranets
Extranets are solutions very similar to intranets in that they provide functionality and information for a company's non-consumer needs, but instead serve external relationships with partners, alliances, manufacturers, suppliers, increasing the effectiveness of these relationships. Extranets, by definition, require multiple, secure, and distinct access by varied audiences. Extranets are gaining prominence as companies find ways of not only converting their own support and coordination systems to online access, but synchronizing these with the same systems of their partners and, in the process, establishing new standards for communication between businesses.
